Safety tips
Naartjie connects real neighbours — and like any marketplace, it pays to be careful. Follow these tips to buy and sell safely.
Meet in a public place
Always meet at a busy, well-lit spot — a Pick n Pay, Spar, or shopping centre. Never at your home or the seller's home for a first meeting.
Bring a friend
Take someone with you, especially for high-value items. Let a third person know where you're going and when to expect you back.
Cash or EFT in person
Confirm payment before handing over the item. For EFT, wait for the bank notification — not just a screenshot — before releasing goods.
Inspect before you pay
Test electronics, check clothing for damage, verify serial numbers. A legitimate seller will always let you inspect the item first.
Keep your car accessible
Park where you can leave quickly. Don't block your own exit. Stay aware of your surroundings.
Trust your instincts
If something feels off — the price is too good, the seller is rushing you, or the location feels wrong — walk away. No deal is worth your safety.
Report suspicious listings
Use the report button on any listing that looks fraudulent. We review reports within 2 working days.
Use our safe spots
